Taking your care home

The first two weeks in Medellín are only the start. Most of your healing happens after you fly home, so the aftercare plan matters as much as the surgery. Before you leave, you get a written plan that covers wound care, your medication schedule, and what needs watching.

Your follow-up schedule

• Week 3, week 6, and week 12: video calls to check healing
• Send photos of your incisions when asked
• Your coordinator stays reachable for questions between calls

Wound and medication care

• Take antibiotics exactly as prescribed and finish the course
• Change dressings and clean incisions only as instructed
• Keep incisions dry until cleared
• Do not add supplements or new medication without asking first

Signs to report right away

• Bleeding that will not stop
• Swelling that is much worse on one side
• Fever, chills, or shortness of breath
• Pain that medication does not control

Setting up local care before you travel

Choose a local doctor or urgent care near home before you fly. If you need local help, share your surgical records with that doctor. Having this ready means you are never guessing if something comes up.

Why the safety habits continue at home

The same rules that protect you in the clinic still apply. Keeping your blood pressure low, avoiding strain, and sleeping elevated all lower your risk.
